Gallery 1 - Astronomical > Deep Sky > Nebulae > Horsehead nebula
The Horsehead Nebula aka Barnard 33 is a dark nebula in the constellation Orion, just below the left belt star. A nearby bright star Sigma Orionis, is ionizing the hydrogen gas causing the red glow and making the thick dust cloud in front appear like a dark horses head. The Flame Nebula to the left is part of this Orion Molecular Cloud Complex.
